In this chapter, you will learn how to legally protect trademarks, inventions, and creations in Chile:

  • Current regulations and key institutions: Chile regulates intellectual and industrial property through national laws, international treaties, the Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), and the Intellectual Rights Department (DDI).
  • Trademark and patent registration: Foreign companies must appoint a local representative. Patents, trademarks, and microorganism deposits can be registered.
  • Other protected rights:Other protected rights include copyright, patent cooperation treaties, and the registration of .cl domain names, which is administered by NIC Chile at Universidad de Chile.
