The Metropolitan Public Transport Board (DTPM) launched this June 28, 2022, the first in a series of public tenders that will be held over the next few years to technologically transform the Santiago public transport system, known as RED. The purpose of the Request for Information on Fleet Management and Passenger Information is to create an open, transparent and participatory meeting point between the State and the technological services industry in urban transport. We want companies to share their experiences, practices and innovations related to technological services around the world. This information will be a key input for the development of future tenders.
The Santiago public transport system (RED) will have over 3,800 high-standard buses from 2023. Nearly 1,600 of them will be electric, and the other 2,200 will be low-emission. In addition to engaging in an important fleet renewal effort, our public transport needs a complete technological transformation. This will allow us to take a comprehensive step forward in the quality of the services offered to passengers. We will thus begin to hold service tenders in such important areas as fleet management and the passenger information system at bus stops and on digital media. We will also introduce new payment formats.
